So I was playing with my food again and this happened. I've had the idea for this recipe in the back of my mind for weeks, first chance I've had to take time to cook it. I've eaten Salisbury steak many times and it's always been just okay. I always thought it was lacking just a little something. To me this is the ultimate Salisbury steak, the Spicy Smokehouse Crackers,
and some roasted red peppers, take it from being just okay to fabulous. Topped it off with onion/mushroom gravy. Comfort food at its finest.
The Ultimate Salisbury Steak Ingredients for 8 servings • 2 lbs of lean Ground Beef • 2 Tablespoons roasted red bell pepper • 1 teaspoon of black pepper • 1 teaspoon of salt • ¼ teaspoon of garlic powder • 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce • 2 eggs • 2 cups of crumbled Smokehouse crackers • 4 to 6 tablespoons butter • 2 medium sweet onions, sliced • ½ lb sliced baby bella mushrooms • 4 Tablespoons of AP flour • 4 cups of Water • 4 teaspoons of beef bouillon granules or equivalent. ________________________________________ 1. Mix the ground beef, roasted red bell pepper, black pepper, salt, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, cracker crumbs and 2 eggs together well. 2. Make into 8 patties. 3. Heat a frying pan over medium heat, and then add 4 tablespoons butter. 4. Place meat patties in a frying pan and brown on both sides for about 4-5 minutes each. Remove from the frying pan and set aside. 5. Drain excess grease, then add 2 Tablespoons of butter and the sliced onions and mushrooms into the skillet, right on top of the browned bits. 6. Reduce the heat and cook the on medium-low heat until the onions turn translucent and brown. Can't be in a hurry for this step. A really good gravy will make a good dish great. Cook low and slow for about 30 minutes. 7. Sprinkle flour over the onions and mushrooms and stir in let it cook and brown for about couple of minutes. 8. Add 4 cups of warm water and beef bouillon. Stir well. Raise the heat back up to about medium Stir and cook to reduce. Adjust seasoning to taste. Then place the meat patties back in the frying pan. Cover and reduce heat and let simmer for about 15 more minutes. Enjoy
